The Associate Sourcing Manager will be responsible for developing and executing product sourcing strategies to support business plans and goals of ILLUME. As the driver of the sourcing strategy, you will deliver timing, margin, and quality objectives while ensuring product design and brand aesthetics are achieved.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Work to solve quality and service issues
  • Contribute to delivering on trend and compliant items to fill sourcing database
  • Oversee development and approval on all programs with foreign and domestic vendors
  • Ensure all programs are clearly defined with expectations and execution
  • Contribute to qualification and management of vendor matrix
  • Lead vendor negotiations
  • On-board and develop existing vendor relationships
  • Assist in vendor performance management with Purchasing


  • Develop sourcing tactics for new development including cost and capacity negotiations
  • Source new materials, resources and trends
  • Deliver new product formats, treatments, and vessels annually by cycle
  • Provide direction for continuous improvement efforts
  • Find effective solutions for all customers in order to meet ILLUME's margin requirements
  • Seek out and develop sourcing strategies for component, packaging, and finished good products


  • Motivate and influence teams to always strive for excellence in performance
  • Ability to perceive how their role will fit into the strategic objectives of the client and ILLUME
  • Effectively and clearly communicate with colleagues and suppliers
  • Interface with Creative, Sales, Technical Services and R&D as well as other departments as required to lead, support and accelerate project timetables
  • Travel to vendors and clients as needed
  • Ability to work with and instill confidence across the company and with our business partners and vendors
  • Partner with Creative on initiatives and growth opportunities
  • Analyze and negotiate costs in collaboration with Product Execution to meet and exceed customer and company margin goals
  • Develop and negotiate Material Supply Agreements (MSA) for key suppliers and commodities
  • Support Purchasing to mitigate supply disruptions and source alternate means of supply, when needed, to maintain continuity of supply, quality, and cost


  • Analyze specs for product costing that meet ILLUME's margin requirements
  • Work to solve quality issues
  • Drive quoting, sampling and prototype samples to timelines to ensure deliverables are being met
  • Review prototypes from various sample stages to ensure design and quality standards are being met
  • Manage vendor matrix including audits and compliance requirements
  • Manage day-to-day activities internally in order to plan for and achieve cost-effective procurement and timely delivery of new product releases and replenishment programs
  • Understand the technical aspects of key material production and component cost drivers, and use creativity in developing product components to achieve cost and margin goals
  • Responsible for mitigating potential quality and technical issues throughout the development process and assisting in the resolution of quality issues that arise during production of final goods


  • Assist Group Manager - Sourcing in developing and evolving sourcing process overall
  • Assist Group Manager - Sourcing in developing souring strategies for all categories
  • Contribute to identifying and replacing existing sources for current design components with more competitive alternatives

Skills & Knowledge Required

  • BS in Operations Mgmt., Supply Chain, Engineering, or similar preferred
  • ASCM Supply Chain Certificate preferred
  • 4+ years' experience in Sourcing, preferably in hard goods home decor categories, or personal care, or FMCGs.
  • Strong understanding of retail strategy
  • Strong understanding of tools to support team efforts
  • Keen eye for visual details and accuracy
  • Adept at juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • A flexible approach and an open mind
  • Self-directed and a great collaborator
  • Strong leadership and written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Expert-level negotiation skills
  • Solid experience and relationships with international vendors
  • Solid fundamental understanding of product development process, sourcing procedures and current market trends
  • Must be able to distinguish colors and finishes
  • Willingness to travel to vendors and clients domestically and internationally up to 25% of time (post-pandemic)
